About the Artist
After middle school, Yolanda felt drawn to Academy Minerva in Groningen to study art. However, the need for financial security took priority over her passion. In 1979 she graduated law school and for years had a fulfilling career in international relations and, later, as a lawyer and mediator.
In 2010, she left the high-pressure environment of law behind and rekindled her passion for art.
Based out of Amsterdam and Malaga, Yolanda has now dedicated herself to honing her craft.
About the Work
Expressed through acrylic and mixed media collage on canvas, her work draws from a search for harmony and serenity. Her “legal mind” left its visible traces, in that a distinct order and logic can be discerned in her compositions, giving the work a graphical expression. Straight lines, simplifying abstractions. Often in multi-canvas formations.
“The ocean and sky are an infinite source of inspiration for me. There is only the horizon. Emptiness, tranquility. A simple horizontal line that separates water from sky, yet it’s never the same. There’s is an infinite variation in colour and texture. Blue, cyan, purple, grey, rough or mirror smooth. Every time you look, the same vista has turned into something new. Decomposing this, focusing on details and recombining these, I build my works.”
